Seeking God is a hard discipline. Especially when you strip the statement “seeking God” out of its cliche and make it raw. Make it desperate. Make it embarrassing in the eyes of the world.
“Our wealth and abundance of human resources have positioned us to accept a paradigm that provision precedes vision. This has been the foundation of building no-risk faith.” – Erwin McManus in Chasing Daylight
The first thing i think of when i hear “Yemen” is the episode of Friends where Chandler tries to break up with Janice by saying that his company transferred him to Yemen.

I’ve talked about charity: water before and i’m continually impressed with their great passion and high accountability as a charitable organization. Like how they’re drilling wells in Ethiopia and using Google Earth to prove their water projects. Like how they have live drilling videos to keep you updated and involved. Like how they would initiate the September Birthday Campaign this month.
Scott Harrison, photographer and founder of charity: water turned 33 years old on September 7th. For his birthday, he wants to raise $1.5 million to build 333 wells so 150,000 people could have clean drinking water. No small feat. I’m challenged to expand my scope of vision when i realize he’s serious about this. Scott is asking others to contribute $33 to fund wells in Ethiopia as a birthday gift. I’d love for you to check it out, particularly if your birthday is in September.
“I started charity: water 2 years ago. We passionately believe everybody on earth should have clean water to drink.
So this year, I’m giving up my 33rd birthday so kids in Ethiopia can have more birthdays…
For my birthday, I’d love to raise $1.5 million to build 333 wells in Ethiopia.
Those wells can give more than 150,000 people clean and safe drinking water. To do that, I’m asking for your donations of $33, $330 or whatever you can give.
100% of all donations got DIRECTLY to water projects that will be proved on Google Earth. Even better, the first $400,000 we raise will be matched by a group of generous friends and sponsors.
So $33 = $66, and $330 = $660…
Thanks for your generosity!”
Last time it was Mongolia..
Here’s part 2.. Guess where this is? (pls don’t ruin it if you know my source..)

Edit: Okay, i should give hints cos it really could be anywhere. The country is technically in Asia but is an Arabic country…
Walking through the mall I hear two white guys behind me talking amongst themselves:
“Those Bubble Tea places are open ’til like 3:00 in the morning and that’s when a sh*tload of Asians are hanging out.”
I had to stifle my laughter cos it’s true! That’s Vancouver for ya. I’m not offended, best laugh of the day!

Sweet mother of pearls! Brooke Fraser is back in Vancouver on Sept 15th and I. AM. SO. STOKED. Twice in 4 months works for me. Her show back in June was lovely, i can’t wait to see her again! I wonder who’s opening for her this time around.. btw, William Fitzsimmons (who opened for her last time) is releasing his new album at the end of the month and you can download a free song off his MySpace. Anyway, holler at me if you’re planning to go see Brooke. If not, well, you really should, cos she’s fantasmic.

And a totally unrelated observation.. in the last 6 years that I’ve been blogging i have never posted 4 consecutive days in a row. This is groundbreaking, folks.
I’m Stephanie Hsieh and I approve this message.

I was strolling through massive Costco one day and unlike everyone else pushing a big fat cart with kids in tow, I empty handily headed towards the Books aisle since it’s much cheaper than at Chapters. And this is what I found:

First of all, it was $11.59. Secondly, it’s two books in one. Third, I’ve heard lots about both Wild at Heart and Captivating from different people but have never read or even flipped through either books. The premise of each being the Christian perspective on masculinity and femininity, respectfully. In short, trying to recover the strength and passion of a man’s heart and unveil the mystery and beauty of a woman’s soul. Sounds cliche? Wait ’til you read the back cover..
Well, I briefly skimmed it in Costco and figured $11.59 is a good enough deal for not one, no, but two books. But the best part is that it’s not even a honkin’ huge volume or anything (fat books bug me cos they take up so much space and are heavy). It’s a decent size and weight so it made it through the check-out.
I’m reading both books simultaneously, reading a chapter from one and then a chapter from the other. To be honest, skimming parts here and there. Sometimes it’s a bit of a cheese fest. For whatever reason, the writing sometimes makes me feel like I’m reading a Nicholas Sparks novel or something. I’m not sure why, there really is no correlation but oh well (yes, I’ve read – not just watched but read, Sparks’ A Walk to Remember and The Notebook after seeing each film).
It pretty much reads as i expected. The issues that the Eldredges address are good, needed and i agree with them for the most part. They breakdown our societal norms and perversions of masculinity and femininity and shed some good light on both sides. For Wild at Heart, they address the danger in babying men all the way into adulthood. This would likely prevent or stifle a healthy and exciting sense of manhood and responsibility. For Captivating, they acknowledge that the lofty ideals of romanticism do speak to our heart-felt desires, but only in part. Ultimately, these longings and our innate design- the way women are “wired,” so to speak, are birthed from, and hinged upon much more than a hope for a fairy-tale Cinderella story. Both sides beg the exploration of 1) God’s character (or, perhaps his nature?) 2) in light of the claim that people are made in his likeness. Maybe some food for thought? Go nuts with it.
I recently got 13 new albums for 12 buckeroos, heck ya! Some have asked how that’s come about…
My friend Sarah told me about eMusic.com a few months ago and it’s been very good to me. i signed up for a free trial.. 50 free downloads.. you can choose to cancel your account and keep the 50 dl.. or, you can continue to get 30 dl per month for $9.99 per month.. i stayed on for a few months and it was golden!
They have tons of artists that i’m really into. lots of singer/songwriter/ indie-folk-pop-rock stuff. soundtracks. Christian artists and bands. mainstream artists and bands as well. if you’re only a Top 40’s listener, you probably won’t find it as appealing. But those who are into, say, Arcade Fire to Radiohead to Sufjan Stevens, from Ryan Adams to Dave Barnes to The New Pornographers.. you may like it more since they have those artists. huge selection from all genres.
anyway, after a few months i decided to cancel my subscription for a while. periodically though, eMuisc would send me emails in attempts to lure me back by offering more free downloads. when they eventually upped their offer to 75 free downloads just for coming back, indeed i came a knockin’. so 75 + the standard 30 gave me 105 songs to download and i went crazy! a dl frenzy if you’d like. i pretty much used up all my dls in one sitting!
If you check out the site and decide to sign on, jot me down as a referrer.. i believe that gets me more free dls, woot =D though, i think now they’ve decreased the initial number of free dls and increased the monthly fee by a buck or two.
in any case, these are the 13 STELLAR albums i got for a mere $12 in my Round 2 bout with eMusic. i looooove them! i wish i had time to comment on every album but at least for now.. Peter Bradley Adams‘ Leavingtaking.. oh dear.. =)

During my more formative years (haha), I would faithfully plop myself down every Wednesday night, 8:00pm, like clockwork, and watch one of my faves…
Those 90’s guitar riffs, gotta love ‘em! And i had a school folder with Luke Perry on it in the 4th grade. Yeah.
Well, fast forward to September 2, 2008… of course I made sure to watch the series premiere of the new 90210 spin-off! It was amusing to catch all the references from the original series. Even more amusing was explaining to my sister (7 years younger, thus never saw any of the original 90210) the different story lines from the first series to put this current series in perspective..
E.g. “In the original show, Kelly Taylor and David Silver became step-siblings when David’s womanizing dad married Kelly’s alcoholic mom and had a baby together.. who is now the teenage character, “Erin Silver” in the new show. And she’s like the voice of West Beverly High via her blog.. kinda similar to how David was the same.. but the old school way.. via P.A. system/ school radio station.
And that Zuckerman-Vasquez kid.. that’s Andrea and Jesse’s baby turned teenager. And the Peach Pit? That used to look different! Kelly Taylor has much better hair now but is still hot as ever. Brenda? Well, we’ll take her back just cos she’s a Walsh. Haha, this is great.”
Oh the memories. Nothing beats the original!
